PineResin
PineResin is a material research project and a quest for discovering new material relationships deriving from the byproducts of timber industry. The ceramic-like composite material pays tribute to the pine tree, the most industrialised tree in the world, and what is left from it after it has been cut down.
Temporality can be beautiful
Pine resin, pine bark, sawdust are fused together to shape new structures, functions and aesthetics. With help of natural pigments and varying proportions, the material will greatly differ in color and texture.
Being a thermoplastic, PineResin can be repeatedly melted down and shaped back into the same, or any new form each and every time and thus it lives a continuous lifecycle. This specific quality of a thermoplastic raises the question - do we own a function or a material? If the product brakes, it is only the function that broke; the material can go through numerous functions throughout its life.
